"Alien" Zine - Edition #3
How do conspiracy theorists play the role of court jester? How can ufology and extraterrestrial conspiracies be considered an art?
Excerpt from the Introduction:
"I think of sifting through those magazines as a kid. For some reason my parents let me pick through them, maybe because they’re fun and weird. Even though they explicitly told me that it was fabricated news stories, all made up to sell copies to gullible losers like me in line, I had this odd trouble distinguishing fact from fiction. Anytime we would arrive at the Commissary checkout, I would be so confused as to what was real news and what was fun made-up news.
Dad’s fascination with Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks and the various space alien and Area 51 ephemera around the house probably didn’t help with the skepticism, nor did watching that one episode titled “Home” on the X-Files with my family later in the evening.
Mom and Dad did the right thing in explicitly stating that the extraterrestrial tabloids were clearly fake, but I think my delusional, imaginative mind ran too freely. So much so, that now those experiences (alongside a number of other life experiences) informed by my current feelings of resentment, skepticism, and lack of faith. Bad combination, very bad accelerant, very bad."
